She balances the taste and stylistic personality of each client with their lifestyle and intended purpose for a space, and places emphasis on comfort and creating spaces that are a functional expression of their lifestyle.

By investing herself in understanding her clients’ needs, she commits to producing design that enhances their lifestyle while reflecting their tastes. Her aesthetic is a timeless, understated elegance balanced with a dose of artful confidence, to which she incorporates organic materials as a powerful tool to add weight and substance to her designs.

Her commitment to finding new pieces for her clients and to learning the history behind furnishings and textiles has allowed her to forge an international network of personal relationships with artists and artisans to offer her clients new aesthetic experiences while also offering artists a new outlet and audience for their craft. This full circle dynamic is emblematic of Maria Gloria’s lifestyle and approach to design.

Maria Gloria also designs accessories and furniture that are synonymous with understated elegance, a worldly curiosity, and a bit of fearless fun. She brings her organic designs to life with the help of masons, ironworkers, carpenters and other trusted tradespeople, while many other designs are handcrafted in-house in Galatea’s confection studio under the exigent scrutiny of her business partner, whose experience producing linens and textiles spans four decades. At Galatea, we are as uncompromising when it comes to utilizing high quality materials as we are when working with industry partners and local artisans. We are committed to supporting ethical and fair trade standards.

“While balancing the functional and aesthetic aspects of a project, I also look for opportunities to make environments feel uplifting. Through working with any available natural light and organic materials, you can appeal to the senses in a subconscious way. Things like running your hand over cold concrete, stepping barefoot over stone, or catching a glimpse of light bouncing off of metals or filtering through the leaves of a plant sparks our connection to nature, which in turn helps us feel recharged and revitalized in our space.”
